The city of darkness was ever exist.

One of the most densest city was ever exist, Kowloon walled city was once called the lawless Twilight zone. Originally it was a Chinese military  fort. It became an enclave after the New Territories were leased to the UK by China in 1898. A 2.7 hectare enclave of opium parlour, whorehouses and gambling dens run by triads, it was a place where tax collectors, health inspectors and evin police fared to tread. It was an ungoverned, densely populated settlement in Kowloon city Hong Kong with 35,000 people crammed into a few tiny apartment blocks and more than 300 interconnected high-rise buildings.

Kowloon walled city was also known as city of darkness. A photographer named Gred Girard spent years investigating and documenting the stranger place before it was demolished. He wrote a book called "the city of darkness revisited", which was the photographic review of Kowloon city.

The city of darkness was ever exist.

In January 1987, the Hong Kong municipal government announced plan to demolish the walled city. After an arduous eviction process, demolition began in March 1993 and was completed in April 1994. Kowloon walled city park opened  in December 1995 and occupies the area of the former Walled city. Some historical artefacts from the walled city, including it's yamen building and remnants of its southern gate, have been preserved there.
